KONTUM, WE WERE THEIR.
Body parts all over in that contact. The latest attack started sometime between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m., according to Lieutenant Colonel D. M. Malone, the battalion's com¬mander from Orlando, Fla. He estimated his unit fought off a battalion-sized enemy force. "They hit us on the northern side of the perimeter which is on a little connecting finger to another hill," explained LTC Malone. The NVA streamed up a steep hill onto the finger and spearheaded their charge with a satchel-charge-earring assault element. In turn, the Ivymen met the attack with every type weapon available.
"You name it and it was there in action," said Staff Sergeant William R. Bramlett of Columbia, S.C. "We had eight artillery batteries firing in support, plus helicopter gunship and tactical air strikes." A squat U.S. heavy machine-gun swung into action shortly after the battle began. "He really had some guts," one U.S. soldier commented. "All that stuff was flying around him and he was sitting in the gunner's chair blasting away."
The heroic gunner was killed by a direct rocket hit minutes after he had begun firing. The savage attack raged on until just after dawn when the remnants of the NVA force retreated down the trench and outside the perimeter. "We were receiving mostly sniper activity after about 7:30 a.m.," LTC Malone said. "Around 10 a.m. everything finally became quiet."

Here are some photos of my dad, Steve Osbrink, who served the 4th as a Combat Medic in '69. He passed away 6-DEC-09 due to a heart condition. He proudly sported the 4th's ivy crest patch on a couple of hats and still used his Dragoons Zippo. He passed down his love for the outdoors and for shooting to my brother and myself. A kind a loving man, he will be greatly missed.

I found a few photos of my Uncle Terry Johnston while going through some of my Grandmother's photo albums. He was in A/3/8 from August 1968 until his death in June of 1969. I have no idea of who is in the photos he took so any help would be greatly appreciated. As I come across more photos I will add them to the gallery. The first 4 photos are of him and the rest are guys he served with. UPDATE Added an additional 115 more photos I have scanned of various people that Terry tool photos of. If anyone has any idea how some of these people are, email me and I can change the caption on the photo. Thanks!
