A true narrative of combat SITREP against a hostile enemy force in the republic of Vietnam 67/68
Ground, mechanize and airmobile combat operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Viet Nam. We participated in over 25 combat assault into hot LZ; Engaged hostile force sustaining casualties, KIA and WIA; Sustained and repealed combat attack by zapper combat units from North Viet Nam Army Regulars; Close combat, 47 enemy KIA; Recovering down helicopter; zenith of contact made during TET offensive in the area of Dak To, Hills 711/724, sustaining heavy casualty: Engaged in close combat, wounded in action, lost contact with reality, personal feelings, and meaning of life.
We have experienced combat operations against a hostile force in the RVN. Distressing trauma-related dreams and nightmares, stressful memories of war, traumatic experience, irritability, angry outburst, lost of interest at intercourse, depression, headaches, memory complaints, dizziness, vertigo, Tinnitus, aggression, anxiety, light and/or noise sensitivity, blurred or double vision, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, sleep disturbance and physical weakness, side effects of medicines for high blood pressure and heart disease. Exposed to Agent Orange and who knows what else. All documented on military and VA medical records.
We have killed the enemy in close combat during the TET Offensive in the Provinces of Dak To and Kontum. I participated combat patrols, ambushes and search and destroy missions, offensive maneuvers directed to killed or destroy the enemy in numerous airmobile combat assault, ground and mechanized combat sweeps in the Republic of Vietnam against hostile enemy force as follows.
The detonations caused by outgoing and incoming heavy artillery fire, mortars, grenade, claymore mines, C-4 high explosives detonation, and exposure to herbicide Agent Orange has always affected our overall medical health condition.

This is a photo of my visit to the wall(2007). I served with the first platoon, 3/8th Alpha Company, 1st platoon in 1968 (March-August). SSGT Alto Anderson became my best friend after meeting him for the first time on the Pleiku to Dakto convoy in March or April 68. He was killed along with two combat engineers near Kontum Province 06/12/68. Alto Anderson (KIA) was a hero even before we met. Despite PTSD and no help from the 4th ID, I got my act together and was commissioned in the USAR as a 2LT in 1982 and rose to the rank of major. I also earned a PhD from (now) NYU Tandon in 1986. Today I am retired, but I still think of Nam and my troops. I dedicate my success to God, my platoon and to SSGT Anderson.I have no pictures from Vietnam. My lifetime email is ret294@NYU.edu
